FreeBSD

I’ve been working with FreeBSD and Unix systems for more than twenty years. I started my career at an Internet Service Provider and became obsessed with performance, uptime, and clean architecture. FreeBSD has been the backbone of many of my projects and client environments over the years, from high-traffic web servers to private infrastructure and specialized appliances. I’ve built, tuned, secured, and maintained FreeBSD systems in production long enough to know what breaks, what scales, and what simply works.

It's important to use the right tool for the job. I am proficient in FreeBSD, Debian and other operating systems, and understand the nuances relevant to your individual use case.

If you’re running FreeBSD in production, or you’re considering migrating from Linux or another platform, I offer consulting and system administration services that help you get the most out of your environment. My work covers everything from DevOps automation to performance tuning, network stack optimization, jail management, and security hardening. Whether you need someone to architect a new environment, troubleshoot existing infrastructure, or audit and modernize your current setup, I can help you build a system that’s fast, stable and profitable.

FreeBSD is an exceptional platform for reliability and security. It’s clean, consistent, and built by people who care about doing things the right way. That’s why I’ve trusted it for years to power production services. I’ve worked with everything from FreeBSD 5 through 14, on bare metal, virtualized and containerized systems. I’ve deployed FreeBSD in datacenters and cloud environments, built firewalls and VPN servers on pf, configured advanced routing and developed custom scripts and tools to automate maintenance and monitoring.

My FreeBSD consulting services include:

  • System Administration: Installation, configuration and maintenance of FreeBSD servers and jails.
  • Performance Tuning: Kernel and sysctl optimization, ZFS tuning, caching layers and I/O performance improvements.
  • Security Hardening: Firewall configuration, patch management, intrusion detection and secure remote access.
  • DevOps and Automation: CI/CD pipelines, shell scripting, Ansible and infrastructure management.
  • Troubleshooting and Recovery: Diagnosing slow systems, failed upgrades, data corruption or network bottlenecks.
  • Migration and Upgrades: Moving from Linux or older FreeBSD versions, planning version upgrades and minimizing downtime.

Clients usually come to me when something critical is failing, or when they’ve outgrown a patchwork system that needs to scale. I’ve rebuilt servers that have been online for over a decade, migrated legacy applications into modern jails, and recovered data from broken ZFS pools. I’ve also helped startups and established companies alike build fast, stable, and secure systems that quietly handle millions of connections a day without fuss.

I take a practical approach to consulting. The goal isn’t to fill your environment with unnecessary tools or buzzwords, but to deliver a reliable system that does what you need and keeps running. If you’re tired of chasing problems caused by misconfigurations, unmaintained scripts, or bloated control panels, I can bring clarity and stability to your infrastructure.

If you need an experienced FreeBSD administrator, or a Unix consultant who can handle complex environments without drama, I’m available for short-term or long-term contracts. You can reach me through the Get in Touch page on this site to discuss your project and see if it’s a good fit.
